ABOUT
THE COURSE
New Beginnings is here to walk beside you during one of the most important transitions in your dog’s life, and yours. With calm guidance, compassion, and practical support, you don’t have to navigate this alone.
WHAT IS NEW BEGINNINGS?
New Beginnings is a gentle, guided online course created for people who are about to adopt, or have just adopted, a rescue dog. It’s designed to support you through the early days, weeks, and months after adoption, a time that is often full of hope, love, uncertainty, and big emotional adjustments for both you and your dog.
Rather than focusing on obedience or “fixing” behaviour, New Beginnings focuses on what matters first: helping your dog feel safe, settled, and able to trust again. From that foundation, learning, confidence, and connection can naturally grow.
Through a series of short, supportive video lessons and downloadable resources, you’ll learn how to:
-
help your dog decompress when they first arrive
-
understand what your dog’s behaviour actually means
-
build trust and connection before asking for skills or compliance
-
support your dog’s emotional, physical, and nervous system wellbeing
-
introduce the world slowly, safely, and without overwhelm
-
correctly introduce your new dog into a multi-dog household
This course is not about creating a ‘perfect’ dog. It’s about creating the conditions where a dog can feel safe enough to become themselves again and where you can feel confident, calm, and supported in guiding them.
WHO IT'S DESIGNED FOR
This course is for adopters who care deeply about doing things well and want to support their rescue dog with compassion, understanding, and patience.
It’s for you if you want guidance that feels calm and realistic, if you’re unsure how much is “too much” too soon, or if you want reassurance that you’re making thoughtful choices during a vulnerable transition period.
Whether this is your first rescue dog or your fifth, and whether your new companion is a puppy or an older soul, this course meets you where you are.

WHY RESCUE DOGS NEED SOMETHING DIFFERENT
Rescue dogs don’t arrive as blank slates.
Many carry experiences of stress, disruption, loss, or trauma — even if we don’t know the full details of their past. Multiple homes, time in shelters, sudden changes in environment, and separation from familiar people all place a heavy load on a dog’s nervous system.
Because of this, asking rescue dogs to immediately adapt, learn rules, meet new people, and cope with busy environments can be overwhelming.
New Beginnings is built on the understanding that behaviour changes when safety increases. Instead of asking, “How do I stop this behaviour?”, we start with, “What does my dog need to feel safe right now?”
WHAT MAKES THIS APPROACH DIFFERENT?
New Beginnings focuses on safety, connection, and understanding, not pressure or control.
Rather than asking dogs to comply before they’ve settled, this course helps them feel safe so learning can happen naturally.
Behaviour is seen as communication, not defiance, and trust is built before correction. With guidance on reading body language, respecting thresholds, and responding calmly, you’ll support your dog in ways that set both of you up for long-term success.
This approach is grounded in emotional safety, compassionate guidance, and real-world strategies that work.
